An Introduction to Crimestar's Products

Crimestar Corporation provides a suite of law enforcement applications software that is designed to meet the needs of a modern public safety organization.   These applications include Records Management System (RMS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Smartphone / Web Interface (CWI) and the Mobile Digital Communications (MDC).  We also offer a Message Switch Gateway (MSG) program which functions as a State/NCIC Interface.

 Records Management System (RMS):   RMS is our flagship product and serves as a complete comprehensive Law Enforcement Records system that helps to automate many of the aspects of a modern day law enforcement agency. Crimestar RMS encompasses a variety of different modules to track critical information throughout your organization. Crimestar RMS is simple to use, easy to understand and scalable. Crimestar RMS can be used in law enforcement agencies of all sizes and is priced to be affordable to even the smallest law enforcement agencies.

 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD):   CAD functions as a complete real-time command and control system for handling all the events and fields resources associated with a Dispatch or 911 Communications center.  Crimestar CAD, provides an easy to use and intuitive environment for handling multiple events (i.e. Calls) simultaneously, providing second-by-second tracking of units and maintaining safety timers for all field resources and activities.  Crimestar CAD is completely integrated with RMS allowing for the easy and automatic transfer of data from CAD into the RMS Calls-for-service module as well as being able to operate within the RMS work environment.

 WEB / Smartphone Interface (CWI): The Crimestar Web Interface (CWI) provides a secure, full-featured platform to query your Crimestar RMS & CAD database from any web browser enabled device, including smart phones. This interface is the perfect tool to easily extend the power of your information system's data into the field for all your authorized personnel. Whether your officers and investigators are in-town, out-of-town or across the country, access to your agency's RMS and CAD data is quick, easy and secure.

The web interface system works in conjunction with the Microsoft Internet Information Servces (IIS) Web Server (included free in your existing MS Windows Operating System "OS").

  Mobile Data Communicator (MDC):   MDC is a real-time digital extension to CAD that allows field units to be silently digitally dispatched via field computers, monitor all CAD event and unit activity, maintain their respective unit status, privately and securely and communicate car-to-car or car-to-dispatch.  Crimestar's MDC utilizes advanced data compression and encryption to provide all communications in a private, rapid secure format.  The system integrates with commercially available GPS receivers to provide real-time vehicle tracking and location of all units, by either dispatch or other field units.  

  Message Switch/Gateway (MSG):   MSG is a flexible, secure and encrypted transaction interface that seamlessly connects all of Crimestar's integrated products (RMS, CAD & MDC) to your State's Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) and NCIC allowing to run State and NCIC query transactions directly from Crimestar.  The Message Switch Gateway can also function as a Regional Information Data Sharing (RIDS) Hub to aggregate data from multiple agencies using Crimestar RMS and provide that information via a simplified web interface.

The CrimeStar Law Enforcement Records Management system has been designed as a standard windows program and is compliant with the standards and guidelines published by Microsoft for application software. Users familiar with the point and click windows user interface should find CrimeStar to be intuitive and easy to use. This chapter provides an overview of the standard features and constructs which are consistent throughout the CrimeStar system. It provides some basic information about the Windows user interface and how the CrimeStar system interacts with this environment. This chapter also provides a brief explanation of each of the modules in the CrimeStar system and includes brief explanation of how these modules are intended to be used. Each of the system modules have a specific chapter dedicated to there use and functions where more specific and detailed information can be found.

CrimeStar has been designed to operate on a 32 bit Windows operating system.  Crimestar can be used as a standalone application on a single PC or on a network as a complete organizational solution. There are two editions of Crimestar RMS that utilize different database engines. The Professional edition uses a powerful desktop file based (DBF type) database engine while the Enterprise edition uses Microsoft SQL Server. Which version of Crimestar RMS is right for you depends on the size and needs of your agency.

Crimestar software can be configured to use the codes and values that mirror the way your agency operates. The software offers various shortcuts, toolbars and accelerator keys to quickly perform tasks and minimize keystrokes. You can use our pre-defined inquires and reports or you can use our custom query tool to create your own. Data can be exported to many popular formats for use with word processors and spreadsheets. It’s your data and your system, so you should have the choice and ability to do what you want.
